The “China Poblana” dress is often seen as the traditional wear of Mexican women. There are many stories about how the attire came about, like many other Mexican traditions. It is said that the “China Poblana” was a slave from India who was brought to Mexico and sold to those in Puebla. Mexican referred to her as “China” because of her Asian roots, and the name stuck. The outfit consists of a beaded bright colored skirt and the traditional blusa poblana, accompanied with a rebozo.
